Once you’ve finished shopping, take the opportunity to visit Fort de Bellegarde.
Built by Vauban in the 18th century, this fort is a masterpiece of military architecture. Its purpose was to guard the two easiest entry points to France, the Perthus and Panissars passes. Its terrace offers a unique view over the Roussillon and Empordà plains. Situated between France and Spain, the fort dominates the two Catalan regions, forming a link between them.

The Valley of the Turtles in Sorède
Turtle Valley is a wildlife park dedicated to showcasing the different species of common and rare turtles.
No fewer than 500 turtles belonging to 30 different species live on the site, from the giant Seychelles turtle to the tiniest. And then there’s Hope, the little white turtle born on the site at the end of 2015, a rare species.
Water turtles are also present, and you’ll learn a great deal about their biologies, lifestyles, biodiversity, predators and more.
Explanatory panels on each enclosure allow you to delve deeper into the subject, and others scattered around the park give general explanations about turtles.
